If you are knocked off your motorbike in a non-fault accident, specialist claims services can help you claim directly from the at-fault driver’s insurance. This means there is nothing for you to pay and you keep your No Claims Bonus.

A motorbike crash isn’t like an accident in a car.

With very little protection, you and your bike take the worst of the impact.

What makes it worse is that the standard claims process is rarely built for bikers. Most insurance companies often treat motorbikes just like cars. They fail to appreciate how different your situation is.

You need help quickly from people who understand both accidents and motorbikes.

    Protection from unfair blame

When a driver causes a crash, It’s not uncommon for them to try and pass the blame. Specialist claims support can help fight for liability in your favour, using evidence, clear facts and road rules to prove they were at fault.

    • The "I didn't see you" excuse. Drivers are often on autopilot, scanning junctions only for cars and vans. Because a motorbike is a much smaller shape they didn’t expect to see, they can look right through you. When they finally do notice you, they assume you must have 'appeared out of nowhere' at high speed. What starts as a simple "Sorry mate, I didn't see you" quickly turns into their insurer unfairly trying to blame you for speeding. The facts can be used to stop this from happening, and to prove who was at fault.
    • Stopping the blame for filtering. Making progress through traffic is one of the benefits of riding a motorbike. Doing it safely is completely legal. If a driver suddenly pulls out of a queue without checking their mirrors and hits you, they are at fault for the accident. Specialist claims handlers help challenge unfair blame and present evidence clearly.
    • The "panic stop" crash. Standard insurance logic usually assumes that if you hit a vehicle from behind, it is your fault. But bikes are different. If a car pulls out of a junction directly into your path, panics, and stops dead, they take away your stopping distance. When you inevitably hit the back of them, they might try to claim you were following too closely. The facts can be used to prove they pulled out illegally and caused the unavoidable crash.
    • Using the Highway Code. Specific rules (like Highway Code Rules 204 and 211) legally require that drivers must look out for bikers at junctions.

Stay on the road with a replacement vehicle

A like-for-like replacement motorbike or car can be available within 24 hours, delivered straight to your door, so you aren’t left without.

    • A like-for-like replacement bike. The recognised industry agreement, known as The GTA, helps ensure your replacement bike matches your own in size, spec, and style. Jumping onto a completely different motorbike can be a genuine safety risk. Different types of bike have unique power delivery, balance, and low-speed manoeuvrability. Your specialist provider will ensure you stay on a bike you are familiar with.
    • A replacement car instead. If you are injured, shaken up, or would simply prefer a car, a standard everyday replacement car can be arranged instead of a bike. (Just note: the rules mean we cannot provide high-end sports cars, even if your bike is powerful).
    • The 7-day rule. If your motorbike is written off, you continue using the replacement bike or car for 7 days after receiving your settlement payout. This gives you time to buy your next bike before the replacement is collected.

    Expert repairs and safety checks

If repairs are needed, your specialist provider will arrange inspection and repair through dedicated motorcycle repair centres.

    • Car-only garages shouldn't fix motorbikes. Motorcycle accident repairs should be carried out by dedicated bike specialists. This means your bike is inspected, stripped down, and rebuilt by people who know exactly what they are looking for.
    • Deep structural checks. A crash can easily cause invisible damage. Specialist repairers can use UV dyes to highlight tiny hairline cracks in the metal, and precise laser measurements to guarantee your frame is perfectly straight before it goes back on the road.
    • Genuine manufacturer-approved parts. Official, manufacturer-approved parts and exact colour-matched paint are used to restore your bike to exactly how it was before the crash. To give you extra peace of mind, new parts also come with a lifetime warranty.
    Motorbike write-offs and fair payouts

If your motorbike is written off, the claims team handling your case will secure a fair settlement from the other driver’s insurance, with the aim of putting you as closely back to the position you were in before the accident.

    • Receiving a fair payout. Insurers have been known to offer settlements less than a vehicle’s worth before the accident. Professional, industry-leading valuation software like Percayso can be used to provide an accurate pre-accident market valuation (PAV), so you aren’t left in a financially worse position than you were before the accident.
    • Outstanding finance. If your bike is on finance and currently worth less than what you still owe, getting an accurate valuation and settlement helps to keep that remaining gap as small as possible.
    • Keeping your parts after a write-off. If your bike has severe structural damage and is written off, it legally cannot go back on the road and the frame must be destroyed. However, depending on the salvage rules, you may still be able to buy the bike back from the insurer to keep the engine or your custom parts.

    Replacing damaged helmets & gear

The at-fault driver’s insurance will also pay to replace your damaged helmet, leathers, accessories and riding tech, so you are not left out of pocket.

    • The "one drop" rule. If your helmet takes an impact during a crash, its internal structure can be compromised. It’s important that it’s replaced, even if it looks perfectly fine on the outside.
    • Gear replacement. Bike clothing is expensive because it’s designed to protect you. The costs of damaged leathers, armoured clothing, boots, riding gloves and more may also be recoverable if your gear was damaged in the incident.
    • Claiming for tech. Damaged extras, such as hard luggage panniers, action cameras, or Bluetooth intercom systems attached to your helmet may also be recoverable.
